WordPress has made it so much easier to start a blog over the years. There are other reasons businesses might want to blog, but I think they're smaller and stray from the core benefits of blogging.

For example, I love to use our blog to test out extensive campaigns on the cheap before investing a lot of money and time into their creation. I also love to use our blog to help understand our persona better.

No longer limited to niche hobbies, almost everyone has a blog now in some form or another.

Some might come as a surprise, while others need no explanation. Being able to inspire an audience through writing is a satisfying feeling. It makes you want to do it all the more. And when people respond to you in positive ways, you generate a portion of influence over them. Starting out might feel awkward and even slightly alien. This stretches your creativity, helping you write more about what people love to read.

And in turn, that translates into a larger audience. When I started blogging I did it for the fun of it. Blogging can help you learn so many new skills and abilities. The content you write about also builds your knowledge. To give you an example, I spent a few years writing about personal finance for a small business blog. Along with learning new skills, the more you write about a subject, the more of an authority you become about it.

Becoming an authority in your niche helps build your online brand. For me, blogging was an effective way for me to break out of my shell.

Blogger and WordPress. Like Blogger, WordPress. You can use WordPress. Medium is great for text-based blogs and is often used for long reads and think pieces. Medium is used by many established writers and is said to have around million monthly readers. It is very easy to use. Its simple interface means all you really have to do is write and hit publish to see your work online. Tumblr is another well known, free blogging platform that also has more of a social media element.

Tumblr is heavy on images and visual content, so if your blog is more memes than articles, it could be the perfect fit. Tumblr also lets you follow other blogs and join subject-led communities.

Blogger is one of the original internet publishing platforms. In fact, if you have a Google account you already have a Blogger account so you really can begin right away. That said, it is limited, and is only really useful for making basic blogs.

If you want more options to create blogs or websites that are more complex, you may want to explore some other blogging platforms like WordPress , or even drag and drop website builders. Blogger, owned and hosted by Google, is a free online blogging platform.

You can use it to create, write and publish a blog. It lets you publish all sorts of content from written articles to images to video and more. Google Blogger is completely free to use. There are no charges, subscriptions or sign up fees at all. The only thing you need is a Google account.

With that, you can access all of Bloggers features for free. Yes, loads of people still use Blogger.
